Are You Clear on Who You are Talking To? (BMM EP016)
Sep 16, 2024
"If you're convinced that no one will be interested in what you have to offer, it's time to dig deep."
I hope this newsletter finds you well and thriving! Today, I'm excited to dive into a topic that can seriously transform your business: getting clear on exactly who you're talking to. So, grab your favorite snack (a margarita counts, right?), and let's have a heart-to-heart about why narrowing down your audience is the secret sauce to your success.
If you're anything like I was in the early days, you might be throwing all kinds of offers at the wall, hoping something sticks. Spoiler alert: that approach usually results in frustration and confusion. When I started out, I wanted to help everyone with everything. Sound familiar? The result? I ended up spinning my wheels and didn't really connect with anyone deeply enough to make a real impact.
So, why is it so darn important to know your audience inside and out? Because not knowing can hold you back big time! Often, there's a huge fear of narrowing down your audience. What if you don't have enough clients? Trust me, I've been there. But here's the reality check: when you're all over the place, potential clients can't figure out if you're the right fit for them. In health coaching, for example, trying to help with too many things can make your expertise seem diluted.
The good news? Once you laser-focus on a specific group and truly understand their needs, fears, desires, and even their perceived needs, magic happens! Here's how you can start getting clear on your audience today:
- Face the Fear: A lot of us fear that if we narrow down, we'll miss out on potential clients. The truth is, being specific makes you stand out. There's enough room for everyone, even in saturated markets. By being brave and really putting yourself out there, you can attract the people who are meant for you.
- Get On Calls: Yes, I see you avoiding those phone calls. But seriously, getting on calls with potential clients for assessments or chats is one of the best ways to understand what keeps them up at night. You'll learn the language they use, their biggest pain points, and what they genuinely need from you. This is pure gold for crafting offers that resonate.
- Do Your Homework: If you're convinced that no one will be interested in what you have to offer, it's time to dig deep. Research, get feedback, and really understand what your audience is willing to pay for. Doing your homework beforehand ensures you're creating offers they'll jump at.
- Publicity Is Your Friend: Sometimes, social media and relationship-building need a little boost. Dive into media and publications to get your name out there. Make sure you have a clear differentiator – something that sets you apart from the pack. Then, go wild getting yourself seen!
- Tackle Your Fears Head-On: If you're in a business that relies on client calls, but you're terrified of making those calls, it's time for some tough love. Find out why and tackle that fear. Whether it’s through journaling, hiring a coach (ahem, like yours truly), or furthering your education, take steps to build your confidence.
Remember, being in touch with your audience makes the whole process of creating and offering your products or services a joyful experience instead of a stressful one. Offers will flow naturally because you'll know exactly what they want and how to deliver it.
I'd love to hear from you on this! How does fear affect your clarity on who you're talking to, and what steps can you take to jump over this hurdle? Join the conversation in our Facebook group or shoot me a reply right here.
Until next time, keep shining and hustling, and don't forget you've got a crew of women rooting for you!
