How to Go From Employee to Entrepreneur with Amy Coats (BMM EP037)

Dec 25, 2023

"Start connecting with people even before you have a product to sell."

We’re diving into some seriously game-changing advice from this podcast episode with Amy Coats. If you’re sitting in a 9 to 5, dreaming about launching your own biz, this one’s for you. Trust me, Amy dished out some golden nuggets that you do NOT want to miss.

Let’s talk business, and let’s talk freedom.

  1. Follow Your Passion

First things first—make sure your business idea is something you’re genuinely passionate about. Amy stressed this hard. Think about it. You don't want to jump from one soul-sucking job to another, right? So take your time, introspect, and find that sweet spot where your passion and market demand intersect. Remember, if you’re not excited about your business, it’ll eventually feel like another 9 to 5.

  1. Share Your Journey

One major takeaway from Amy’s journey is the power of sharing your story. Start connecting with people even before you have a product to sell. Share your experiences, struggles, whatever. People relate to real stories. It’s not just about the sell; it’s about building relationships. And hey, this doesn’t need to be a public declaration if you’re still in your 9 to 5. Amy suggests starting within closed Facebook groups. So, no excuses!

  1. Consistency Over All

Amy’s honesty was refreshing—this path isn’t all rainbows and unicorns. It’s more like a rollercoaster. She learned the hard way that being consistent is key. No more burning the midnight oil for a week and then disappearing for two. Find your rhythm, stick to it, and your progress will be steady.

  1. Visibility is Queen

Alright, my introverted friends, this one might sting. Visibility is crucial. Amy was super candid about her trembling first steps into Facebook Lives and podcasts. But guess what? She did it. And you can too. Take baby steps—record videos, hop on live sessions, join podcasts. The more visible you are, the more trust you’ll build with your audience.

  1. Financial Security First

I cannot stress this enough—don’t jump ship too soon. Amy’s advice here is gold. Have a clear financial plan. Know exactly how much you need to save or earn before handing in that 2-week notice. Create a ‘freedom fund’ like Amy did. It’ll take a huge load off your mind knowing you’re financially set for the initial months.

Bonus Tip: Time and Money Aren’t Always Linked

This one was a lightbulb moment. In the world of entrepreneurship, time and money don’t have a direct correlation. You might put in 40 hours and see little return at first. But stay the course. Eventually, with the right strategies and consistency, you may find yourself putting in fewer hours and making a much bigger impact.

Final Thoughts

Everything you want, gorgeous, is truly on the other side of fear. I believe in you just as much as Amy believes in the incredible women she helps. Take that step. Heck, take a leap if you’re ready. Feel the fear and do it anyway.

If you need a little more mojo and some practical tips, don’t forget to check out Amy’s 2 Week Notice Society. She’s got webinars, resources, and an entire community willing to back you up.

Until next time, stay fabulous, take those baby steps, and let’s make those entrepreneurial dreams come true!
