Grant Yourself the Freedom to Live, Work, and Play Based On Your Inner Truth and Wisdom with Lori DiGuardi (HHR EP015)

Dec 12, 2022

"Our biological response to change often makes us cling to old patterns out of fear."

I hope this message finds you in the best of spirits! Today, I am thrilled to share some profound insights from my podcast episode with the incredible Lori DiGuardi. Lori is truly a force to be reckoned with—she's a TEDx speaker, author, and an unstoppable advocate for women's empowerment. Our chat was brimming with nuggets of wisdom on living, working, and playing based on your inner truth and wisdom. And guess what? She's generously shared some golden bits of advice on how you can step into your own freedom. So grab your favorite beverage, get comfy, and let's dive in!

Overcoming Fear and Finding Joy in the Process

Lori candidly revealed that her first TEDx talk was nerve-wracking, but, just like ripping off a Band-Aid, it became less daunting over time, and now she looks forward to doing it again. It reminded me of the first time I went live on Facebook—terrifying at first, yet surprisingly enjoyable the more I did it. So, here's my first takeaway for you: Embrace your fears. They may seem insurmountable at first, but they can turn into sources of joy and growth!

The Power of Self-Awareness: Your Key to Freedom

Lori spoke about granting ourselves the freedom to live according to our inner wisdom. Easier said than done, right? Our biological response to change often makes us cling to old patterns out of fear. But don't worry; Lori shared three actionable steps to help you start the journey:

1. Bring Energy into Your Body: Whether through a short walk, a few minutes of stretching, or even some deep breaths, awakening your body helps ground you in the present.

2. Practice Mindfulness: This doesn't mean you need to meditate for hours. Even a few minutes of mindful breathing can shift your perspective and help you stay anchored.

3. Ask Yourself What You Need: It's easy to overlook our own needs in the hustle and bustle of life. Pause and genuinely check in with yourself.

Changing Habitual Thought Patterns: It's a Journey, Not a Sprint

Lori also acknowledged that changing our habitual thought patterns can be a monumental challenge. It's something that requires consistent practice and self-kindness. So, be gentle with yourself. Celebrate small victories and don't be too hard on yourself when you slip back into old habits.

Mindfulness Meditation: A Transformative Practice

Lori has made mindfulness meditation a core part of her life, and she raved about its benefits. For her, mindfulness has become second nature—a way to live authentically and truthfully. If you're new to mindfulness, Lori's website offers some fantastic free resources, including PDFs and audio files that can guide you through this transformative practice.

Listening to Lori talk about her journey—from enduring and overcoming abuse to finding her inner strength and becoming a kickass karate practitioner—was nothing short of empowering. She is a living testament that honoring oneself and prioritizing self-care can lead us to a more fulfilled and impactful life.

So, my fabulous friends, let's take these nuggets of wisdom and start granting ourselves the freedom to live according to our inner truth. Remember, it's a journey. Take it one step at a time and be kind to yourself along the way.
