Reclaim Your Financial Power with Melanie Houghton (BMM EP033)

Dec 21, 2023

"Sometimes, life gives us signs that it's time to level up."

We had the fabulous Melanie Houghton on the Business Mojo and Margaritas podcast, and let me tell you, her insights on reclaiming your financial power are downright game-changing!

First off, let's talk about the difference between financial freedom and financial empowerment. Melanie broke it down so perfectly. Financial freedom is all about having cash-generating assets that cover your expenses without lifting a finger. Sounds dreamy, right? But financial empowerment is more about feeling like you have the power, choice, and freedom to control your financial destiny. It's about looking at that balance sheet without breaking into a cold sweat. It's about knowing you've got this—even when it feels like you don't.

So why is financial empowerment such a big deal for us women? Well, Melanie made a powerful point that we often need a deeper motivation than just financial gain to really go for it. We thrive when we can see that our financial success is helping others, be it our family, our community, or our clients. And guess what? Studies show that when women make more money, 90% of it goes back into their local economy. Imagine the ripple effects of that!

Now, if you're sitting there thinking, "Okay, but where do I even start with reclaiming my financial power?"—I've got you covered. Here are some actionable steps inspired by Melanie's wisdom:

  1. Recognize the Call to Greatness: Sometimes, life gives us signs that it's time to level up. Maybe your usual strategies aren't working as well, or perhaps you're in the middle of a "divine storm" where everything feels chaotic. Instead of seeing these as obstacles, recognize them as a call to step into your greatness.

  2. Embrace Stillness: Before you dive into action, take a moment to slow down. Yes, you read that right! Carve out time for yourself to get clear on what you really want. This isn't about being lazy; it's about creating space for your best ideas to flourish. Remember, a field that is rested gives a bountiful crop.

  3. Audit Your Beliefs: Just like a spring cleaning, it's time to go through your beliefs about money. Which ones are serving you? Which ones need to be tossed out like last season's fashion? This can be a bit confronting, but it's such a powerful exercise.

  4. Take Inspired Action: Once you've gotten clear and done some inner work, it's time to act. But here's the kicker—take action that supports your newfound clarity. Whether it's asking for that raise, starting a side hustle, or investing in your education, make sure it's aligned with your empowered self.

  5. Join a Community: Surround yourself with like-minded women who are on the same journey. Melanie runs the High Vibe Collective, where she offers free trainings and a personal development book club. It's a fantastic place to start reclaiming your voice, value, and authentic power.

So there you have it! Five steps to start reclaiming your financial power and stepping into that greatness that's been calling your name. I can't wait to see all the amazing things you do.

And before I sign off, I want to invite you to join our Facebook group where we continue these empowering conversations.
